The Importance of Your Bedroom

Hampton Hill_Natural Instincts.jpg.ashxI love beautiful bedrooms. So many times this is the forgotten room ..the  Bedroom. Should you not make sure this room represents a sanctuary at the end of the day. We decorate our kids rooms, the guest room and forget about “our” room.  Paint the room a shade you and your husband, or just you, will love for a long time. Carefully select the at and the accessories. The lighting a bedside should be dimple for romance or a late night talk. Flowers added tMP_HarlowMaxineMelissaRaylene_ComfSet_SideAngle_White.jpg.ashxo the night table is a nice touch.White bedding offers you the flexibility of adding color where you wish. If you are fortunate enough add a seating area so you can get away when you feel like quiet.

White bedding offers flexibility as does natural bedding. Whether you live a spread, comforter or duvet make sure it is one you will enjoy and spend a few dollars getting what you want.

Make sure the master bedroom is clutter free…there is nothing more unsettling than a bedroom that speak of havoc and dis organization. Make the bed. fluff the pillows so that when you come home your bedroom will say “welcome back”.

34-1This bedroom is from a redesign project in 2013.  The client wished to have an updated look in their historic home. We created the night tables from a bookcase bed, silver leafing the wood and adding marble tops. The lamps were from TJ Maxx, some of the pillows from their old bedding. I ordered the luxurious bedding from one of my suppliers. The mirrors were added behind the lamps. This came out beautifully and not for a “ton” of money. Redesign, repurpose, revamp….revise. Their bedroom was luxurious, romantic, comfortable and totally updated.

So don’t forget your “end of the day’ haven. If you need a little helping hand let me know. Let’s create a beautiful bedroom for you.

Staging…You Want Me to Do What!

I want you to buy new bedding. I cannot remember how many times I have said this. It seems one of the most important rooms in the house keeps getting neglected. This is where you go to relax. Should this room be messy, mismatched and cluttered? NO, absolutely not.

Beautiful Master Bedrooms

Incredibly simple and elegant. I love the simple lines, the mono chromatic scheme. To add a bit of punch you could add pillows in most any color. This look would not be expensive and would be fabulous in a guest bedroom.Image

Color, It Speaks to Us

Color tugs at our emotions in a lot of ways. Color speaks volumes; energy, solitude, beauty, freshness, passion, purity, life. The colors of the rainbow always make us happy. They represent fresh air after the storm.

Do the colors in your home speak to you?

Oranges and ambers what a range; from pumpkins to fireside flame. Warm, spicy, these perk us up and keep us warm.

Light greens and blues speak to our sense of rest; a need to escape. These shades are soft, peaceful, quiet. Beautiful shades of aqua to the crystal blues of the ocean. Our love for solitude reflected in color.

Romance, who doesn’t love it? A beautiful rose garden, the blush of a child’s cheeks. Playful and feminine, coral or cotton candy, pink or purple, they all lift the spirit and leave us feeling…so….

Tranquility, gems, uplifting describe turquoise. Turquoise is a wonderfully spirited. This color is said to enhance your creativity, yet is fresh as the morning dew.

Who can resist a bit of red. Passionate, warm and the heart of the home. Red can add drama, or spark a bit of heat in a room.

Purity. We all loves the different shades of white. Comforting to the spirit and the soul. It is simple, it is pure and it is natural.

Nature. Green, brown, growth, rebirth. The grass is always greener. Nature speaks to us in all of it’s glorious color, but the foundation is green.

Take a look at the colors in your home. Do they speak to you? Are you happy with them?

I Love to Go to Lowe’s Home Improvement

Today I was in Lowe’s looking for a product that would waterproof a canvas I want to hang outside. No luck there but I did run across an amazing product yet to be proven by me. I am excited to try this and want to share with you.

Rust-Oleum Countertop and Cabinet Transformations. Kits allowing you to transform worn, damaged and outdated countertops into new surfaces in just one weekend. One kit covers up to 50 SF. Comes in five colors and looks incredible. The kit contains everything you need.

The countertop kit comes in two different tintable kits. One dark and one light. The dark kit can be tintable to 24 colors; the light one to 11 colors. You have the option of with or without decorative glaze. I am so excited to try this. As soon as I do I will post before and after pictures.

This should help a lot of people save money and create beautiful rooms…one at a time..by design. Until later.

Traditional No Gender Nursery

Murals for a Childs Room

Nursery Design

My client wanted a design that would be suitable for boy or girl and could grown with them.

The bed makes into a queen bed and will be great when the baby is ready for a more mature room.

The murals can be removed from the walls when the child is older.

This was a fun project and the results are really stunning.

The Importance of Paint

Viewing a home online is an experience. Take note of the wall colors of each home. How do you feel if all the walls are robin egg blue as we call it. What if all the rooms were this color? Would this be overwhelming? I think so for the potential buyer. Suggestions were to one remove all if “the stuff” and then to paint in neutral shades of grays with brown undertones, or brown with gray undertones. The neutral shades will highlight the wonderful white trim, cabinets and the new granite (installed soon). Viewed on the internet, where buyers start their search, I am sure they could 1) not see the space 2) be overwhelmed with blue. If blue is your favorite color and you are decorating, try varying shades of blue. If you are staging stay away from this shade of blue….go much lighter, almost just a kiss of blue undertone in a gray. Happy staging and decorating.
